USS Bainbridge (DDG-96)
Commissioned on 12 November 2005, USS Bainbridge (DDG-96) is the fifth U.S. Navy warship to bear the name of Commodore William Bainbridge, a distinguished naval officer of the early Republic and commander of USS Constitution during the War of 1812. Built by Bath Iron Works in Maine, Bainbridge is an Arleigh Burke-class Aegis guided-missile destroyer designed to deliver speed, precision, and overwhelming multi-mission capability.
Mission
As an Aegis guided-missile destroyer, Bainbridge is a highly versatile multi-mission combatant capable of conducting anti-air, anti-surface, anti-submarine, and strike warfare. Her mission encompasses air and missile defense, maritime security, sea control, power projection, and protection of U.S. and allied forces. Equipped with the Aegis Weapon System and vertical launch missile systems, Bainbridge can operate independently or as part of a carrier strike group, surface action group, amphibious force, or other naval formation.
